Coloring Through Pet Loss: A Gentle Way to Remember
By the GothGate studio ·

Losing a pet is losing a member of the family, and the grief can be surprisingly physical and long. There is no right way through it. For some people, doing something quiet with their hands — coloring, journaling, arranging a small memorial — makes the days a little easier to hold.
These are gentle suggestions, not a programme. Take what helps and leave the rest.
Color the creature that feels like them
Choose a page with a cat, dog or small creature that reminds you of your companion, and color it in their colours. It is a way of spending a little time with them.
Write to them
A few lines on the back of the page — a favourite habit, a ridiculous moment, what you miss — can be more comforting than you expect.
Make a small remembrance shelf
A collar, a photo, a candle and a print. A painted memorial portrait of your companion, or a tarot card, can make a quiet centrepiece.
Ask about a portrait of your companion
We take design inquiries for gothic portraits inspired by your own pet. Send us a note and we will reply personally — there is no pressure and no rush.
You do not have to grieve alone
Many vet schools and animal charities run free pet-loss support lines and online groups. If grief is overwhelming or lasting, a counsellor or doctor can help.
Questions & answers
Is it normal to grieve a pet this much?
Yes. Pets are part of our daily routines and our families, and grief for them can be as intense as any other loss.
Can you make a portrait of my pet?
We are not offering self-serve custom orders yet, but we do take design inquiries. Use the commissions page to tell us about your companion.
