Creepmas: 8 Goth Christmas Decor Ideas

The Victorians told ghost stories at Christmas — A Christmas Carol is one, after all. Creepmas brings that tradition back: twinkle lights and tinsel, but with black trees, bats and a raven or two.

1. Go black (or deep green) with the tree

A black tree with gold and oxblood ornaments is the classic Creepmas statement. If black feels like too much, a very dark green tree with black ribbon gets you most of the way there.

2. Hang gothic Christmas prints

Swap your Halloween mantel art for Gothmas prints in December — same frames, new mood. Ravens in holly, a black cat in a Santa hat, or a vintage Krampus.

3. Make printable ornaments and tags

Paper ornaments in gold-on-black glow under fairy lights, and matching gift tags tie the whole look together.

4. Use apothecary jars as “potion” décor

Fill jars with cinnamon sticks, dried orange and pine, then label them with vintage apothecary labels. Festive, a little sinister, and it smells wonderful.

5. Host a Creepmas coloring night

Hot drinks, candles, a ghost story playing in the background and a stack of gothic Christmas coloring pages. It is a calmer alternative to another party.

6. Read a ghost story aloud

Dickens, M. R. James, or anything from a Victorian anthology. Turn the lights low and let the tree do the rest.

7. Wrap gifts in black

Black kraft paper, gold string and a sprig of rosemary looks expensive and costs almost nothing.

8. Throw a Creepmas party

Bingo, a MERRY CREEPMAS banner and food labels — the party pack does the decorating for you.
